Your Local Club & Dance Music Guide

Subversive LA team went underground at Resonance in downtown LA.

Getting There: We arrive at a secure parking lot that is open til late and park, for $6 nice. Next we're waiting for a min or two and get into the shuttle service provided by Kenny Chang (Mixmedia), who is the creator/organizer of Resonance to get us to the venue. Its a few min and we arrive at the venue.
Arrival: Cool warehouse building- we walk in past some of the friendliest bouncers- continue up a few stairs, pass the bit where you pay, and then we're faced with a fork- one room, which is lit with ambient lighting and walls peppered with art soothed by the sounds of trip-hop/ambient/downtempo/dub being spun by DJs:Seda, Pur One, Jon Von & Victor Carrillo, MacaDamion, Dean Paul, N8. The other room which is darker and thumping with some sweet tunes is the techno/minimal/ deep/house part with DJs Fanon Flowers, Kenny Chang, Trichome, Fabian, Joe Bickle, Stan Min on the line up.
Party Scene: We enjoyed MacaDamion's set while observing the artist Pukac painting and also admired other various artwork on the walls of the spacious warehouse. The bar and bar staff was great! The bar was well stocked, with Vodka, Whiskey and Beers (Bud Lite, Newcastle..) all at reasonable prices. Water was $2 We grabbed a bevy and found a seat on one of many plush soft sofa's.. heavenly Shortly there after we were greeted by Kenny and got to speak to him for a few min.
Final Word: The vibe was great, a good variety of people enjoying the music, dancing and artwork. Everyone was friendly and outgoing, so 'Buddha Child' could get down to business and ask club goers at Resonance the question of the night- "if you were a drink, which one would you be & why?" and take their picture (check out subversivela.com/buddhaq) . After midnight we noticed that there were still not that many people in the space, which turns out was a fault of our (not so) friends the Fuzz, the Po-po, the Pigs.. what ever you want to call them. But despite this minor hiccup, which organizer Kenny managed to sort out very quickly, the vibe continued strong, more people arrived and the night got better as it progressed.

All together it was a good night out, we'd go again so overall rating ****

Subversive LA puts on their sunglasses at the 'Tijuana Picnic'

Pre-Party: We met Diana (the organizer) in silverlake, after combing the greater LA area for a mini-pool, which Subversive LA was proud to donate for the picnic! (we also bought a pink ball but forgot to bring the thing, sorry folks).

Arrival: We drove off on another roasting hot day in LA to downtown, eager to paddle around in the mini pools! When we arrived we were a touch weary about the location (downtown during the day is a little 'different' than how it looks during the night!), but it seemed to work out perfect.

Party Scene: There was loads of space for the pools, a great sound system, top DJs and a medium sized, friendly crowd who were all having a great time. We made our way past the grill to the beverage stand. It was well stocked, cheap & drinks were cold, all you could have wanted for a hot day. We then got tucked into some tasty sets by Acid Circus and later Vealchop. The full line up was DJs: ANDREW KELLY, ACID CIRCUS, ZAVIER, VEALCHOP, FRANK FADER, OLIVIA ARTHUR, PLEXOR, SHOCKEY.

Final Word: In all at first we thought the venue looked a bit dubious but once inside and hearing the great music we could have been anywhere. The crowd was friendly and Diana was a real treat to hang out with. The sound system was savage and DJ sets were genius. If we can complain about anything it was the lack of seating (near or in the pools) and not a very big crowd. But in all it was a good day party and cheers for putting it in motion. We hope that Diana organizes another party soon with the same line up but by night.

We enjoyed it!, good day party ****
